COMMUNICATE:
We have spent so much time considering KUD's, Targets, Scales, Lesson Plans, Practice, Formatives and Summatives - but the goal is to give students feed back and also to TEACH THEM what to do with feedback. Many kids think of feedback as one-dimensional. Snelling Core teaches their kids about Growth Mindset - which provides an way of thinking about feedback that spins all feedback into an opportunity rather than a judgement. I provide a tracking sheet for students to see what understandings they have demonstrated, set goals for the end of the unit and write specific tasks necessary for them to meet their goals. Feedback loops: both positive and negative, are important aspects of understanding biological systems and can be used to understand learning too.
